چکیده
BACKGROUND Prospective data on the medium-term safety and effectiveness of the AMPLATZER Septal Occluder in clinical practice are not available. The objective of this study was to prospectively evaluate the risk of hemodynamic compromise and obtain medium-term survival data on patients implanted with the AMPLATZER Septal Occluder for percutaneous closure of secundum atrial septal defects. METHODS AND RESULTS Subjects were enrolled prospectively at 50 US sites and followed for 2 years. Between 2008 and 2012, atrial septal defect closure with the AMPLATZER Septal Occluder was attempted in 1000 patients (aged 0.3-83.6 years, mean 21±22 years). Procedural closure occurred in 97.9%, with 1-month and 2-year closure 98.5% and 97.9%, respectively. Hemodynamic compromise occurred in 6 subjects (0.65%), because of dysrhythmia in 2, device embolization in 1, and cardiac erosion in 3. The rate of cardiac erosion was 0.3% (average 83, range 12-171 days from implant). CONCLUSIONS Closure of atrial septal defect with the AMPLATZER Septal Occluder is safe and effective. The rate of hemodynamic compromise and cardiac erosion is rare. The risk factors for cardiac erosion after device closure are not yet clear. Live/Real Time Three-Dimensional Trans Esophageal Echocardiographic Findings in Amplatzer ASD Closure Devices in Adults
Six female patients aged from 19 to 73 years, with ostium secundum atrial septal defect underwent closure procedure with Amplatzer septal occluder device. Three-dimensional Echocardiography (3D-TEE) was done during the procedure or one day after the procedure. 3D-TEE provides incremental value over Two- dimensional trans-esophageal echocardiography in measuring Amplatzer septal occluder disc si...

Percutaneous transcatheter atrial septal defect (ASD) closure is a widely used technique that has replaced open-heart surgical closure in many centers. The most common implant is the Amplatzer septal occluder which seems to be a highly effective and safe device. However, there are reports of complications associated with its implantation. We report a 9-year-old boy who presented with complete a...
متن کاملSurgical Management for Complications during Closure of Atrial Septal Defect with Amplatzer Device.
BACKGROUND Transcatheter closure of secundum type atrial septal defect (ASD) has become a standard procedure in most medical centers. Although the procedure is invasive and has a shorter recovery duration and a lower complication rate compared with surgery, it is not risk-free. In this retrospective chart review case series, we report our experience of management of complications after placemen...
متن کاملLong-term outcome of transcatheter secundum-type atrial septal defect closure using Amplatzer septal occluders.
OBJECTIVES The aim of this study was to assess long-term results of percutaneous closure of secundum-type atrial septal defect (ASD II) using Amplatzer septal occluders (ASO). BACKGROUND Only immediate-, short-, and intermediate-term results of ASO implantation are known so far. METHODS Between September 1995 and January 2000, 151 patients underwent a successful percutaneous closure of ASD ...

OBJECTIVE To apply three dimensional echocardiography to describe the geometric profile of the Amplatzer and Cardioseal occluders after deployment for closure of atrial septal defect. METHODS 20 patients (mean (SD) age, 14 (5) years) were enrolled for transcatheter closure of a secundum atrial septal defect with the Amplatzer occluder (10) or with the Cardioseal occluder (10). The two populat...
